As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we thank the many volunteers who make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable seniors every single day.

From ordering groceries and providing medical transportation, to making friendly check-in calls for seniors who are isolated—your kindness, compassion, and dedication do not go unnoticed. We are also deeply grateful to our volunteer Board, whose guidance and leadership help steer Seniors Services Society with care, integrity, and vision.

Earlier this year, we hired a new Support Services Coordinator, Olawumi Ojewale to manage our 60 volunteers. Olawumi will recruit and train volunteers, address program gaps and organize volunteer appreciation. We’re thrilled to have her on board and welcome her fresh perspective.

In 2025, our volunteers assisted an average of 280 New Westminster seniors each month, and provided over 6,821 separate services. They offer a friendly voice and a smile to those who need help to live independently.

This year, we’re looking for volunteers to help host and facilitate our social meals program so that low income isolated seniors can connect with others in their community at no cost to them. If you’re interested in helping, reach out to Olawumi either through our website or by calling 604-520-6621.

It truly takes a village to support seniors, and we are so thankful for each and every volunteer who gives their time and heart to enrich the lives of others. Your selfless contributions strengthen our community and help seniors feel supported, connected, and valued.

Thank you for all that you do—this week and always.
