Helping More Surrey Seniors Stay Housed

We are pleased to welcome SOURCES Community Resources Society as our newest partner in the provincial SHINE network, expanding support for seniors in Surrey who are facing housing challenges.

This partnership officially began in August 2026 after we identified a growing need for housing navigation services for seniors in Surrey’s Newton area. SOURCES was a natural fit. Not only does the organization have strong community connections and extensive experience supporting vulnerable residents, but we also had an established working relationship that provided a solid foundation for collaboration.

Through SHINE, SOURCES provides housing navigation services to Surrey seniors, helping them access resources, find affordable housing, and maintain existing housing. Together, we are ensuring that more seniors can find the support they need before a housing crisis becomes homelessness.

“We recognized that we can’t solve housing security amongst seniors alone. That’s why we’re partnering with experienced non-profits like SOURCES, to leverage the resources required to do this vital work” said Alison Silgardo, CEO, Seniors Services Society of BC.  “Seniors simply can’t wait. Having a Housing Navigator funded locally will definitely make an impact in Surrey.

“Being part of the SHINE network allows us to connect Surrey seniors to a province-wide community of housing expertise and support,” says Jay Blaschuk, Housing Support Services Program Manager at SOURCES Community Resource Centres. “No single organization can address the growing housing challenges seniors face on its own. Through SHINE, we can share knowledge, collaborate with partners across BC, and help seniors access the resources they need to remain safely and securely housed.”

The impact of this partnership is already being felt. Shortly after joining the SHINE network, SOURCES worked with us to help a senior remain in their apartment during a period of financial hardship. By connecting the individual with a rent supplement, we were able to prevent the loss of their housing and provide the stability needed to move forward.

We are excited about the opportunities this partnership creates and look forward to working alongside SOURCES to help more Surrey seniors remain safely and securely housed.
