Mikayla Marazzi joins Senior Services Society as our new Resource Development Officer starting November 2nd. Mikayla will be taking over the role from Kim Heron, who will be retiring at the end of the year.

Mikayla has experience in fundraising, marketing & communications, and a Master’s degree from the University of Oslo’s Centre for Global Sustainability. Mikayla brings valuable experience and fresh perspectives to our fundraising and communications efforts. We look forward to the energy, ideas, and expertise she will bring to strengthening our relationships with donors, funders, and community partners as we continue to expand our impact in supporting seniors across BC.

As we welcome Mikayla, we also take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Kim Heron, our Strategic Communications & Development Officer, as she moves on to her next chapter.

Kim has made valuable contributions to strengthening how we tell our story, connect with our communities, and communicate the impact of our work. Her leadership in developing our Home for the Holidays campaign helped bring greater visibility to the needs of seniors and the importance of community support. She has also helped strengthen our social media presence, giving us more opportunities to share our work, celebrate our partnerships, and engage with the wider community.

An important part of Kim’s contribution has been developing a strategic communications plan to help guide our work into the future. She has encouraged greater engagement across the team, bringing colleagues together to identify stories, capture meaningful moments, and contribute photographs and visuals that bring our work to life. This has helped us recognize that communications is not simply the responsibility of one person or department; it is something we all contribute to by sharing the stories and experiences that demonstrate the difference we make.

Kim has also helped build engagement around initiatives such as our Walk of Ages, creating opportunities to connect our mission with the people and communities who support it. Through these efforts, she has helped strengthen the foundations for a more consistent, collaborative, and impactful communications approach that will serve SSSBC well in the years ahead.

Kim, thank you for your creativity, commitment, and the foundations you have helped establish for our organization’s future. Your work has helped us tell our story with greater purpose and encouraged all of us to recognize the value of sharing the experiences, people, and partnerships at the heart of what we do.

As our team evolves, our mission remains constant: ensuring that seniors across BC have access to the support, resources, and connections they need to age with dignity, security, and a sense of belonging.

Please join me in welcoming Mikayla to the team and wishing Kim every success and happiness in her next chapter.
