The Community Education Department at Seniors Services Society welcomes invitations to speak to groups throughout the lower mainland. Trained staff and volunteers are available to staff tables at conferences or give powerpoint presentations to professionals and others. On average, per year, over 70 conference tables or presentations are given to groups in the Fraser Health and Vancouver Coastal Health areas.
Most groups request a talk on the important topic of seniors and housing. The Society has an excellent grid organizing the four basic types of independent housing and residential care, and these are used as a handout along with a multi-page handout defining the housing terms. When staffing a table at a Seniors Fair, we distribute information and brochures about all types of support services throughout the area, from food services, pensions, health and local support organizations to rental subsidy programs and elder abuse. Some groups are very challenging, as speaking to over 100 Cantonese speaking seniors for SUCCESS or Social Workers at a hospital when a Code Blue is called. But the end result is that seniors and their supporters and family get the right and relevant information and get referred to our Housing Counselor at the Society. Call 604-520-6621 or email to book a speaker.
