When senior client David connected with Seniors Services Society, he was living in an apartment he could no longer afford. His rent was $1,000 more than his monthly income. With his lease ending and rent already out of reach, moving felt overwhelming — especially on a fixed income, with ongoing health needs and a beloved pet. Even with these challenges, staying in his New Westminster community close to familiar supports and services was also important to David.

Through our collaboration with housing provider PC Urban, David was able to secure a home that truly meets his needs. PC Urban offers Low-End Market (LEM) rental units —quality studios priced below typical market rents to create more accessible options for people with moderate or fixed incomes.

Located within walking distance to shops, transit, parks and essential services, the brand new building in the heart of Uptown New Westminster provides both convenience and community — along with thoughtful amenities like a pet grooming room for his beloved small dog. Each studio also comes with a balcony and in unit washer and dryer.

With the help of our Housing Navigator and his close friend, David was able to access additional funding sources to make the rent sustainable long-term. And because saving for move-in costs would have been extremely difficult, Seniors Services Society covered his damage deposit and first month’s rent — making this transition possible.

Today, David is settling into what he calls his “dream building”. “I cannot thank everyone at SSSBC enough for all that you’ve done. You didn’t just make this huge transition easier — you made it possible, and for that I am truly grateful.

We’re equally grateful to PC Urban for helping expand affordable housing options in our community and for partnering with us to create real housing solutions for seniors in need.
