We are filled with gratitude to everyone who contributed to our Home for the Holidays campaign. Thanks to your generosity, we raised over $64,000 cash and in-kind to ensure that vulnerable seniors in BC have someone to turn to when facing a housing crisis. Because of you, 125 seniors received a holiday gift and 55 seniors enjoyed a festive meal, providing a sense of connection and helping them feel less alone.
We are already using the funds raised to provide 1:1 housing navigation and support services, ensuring that senior renters have housing stability, safety and the dignity that entails.
Just this week, we helped a senior who was facing eviction. After a lifetime of paying her bills and keeping a roof over her head, she now found herself one month behind on rent, with outstanding bills and little food left in the house. She worried about becoming homeless for the first time in her life and reached out to us for help.
Our housing navigator met her with compassion and urgency, moving quickly to stabilize her situation. We were able to expedite her Guaranteed Income Supplement, providing a vital boost to her income. We paid her overdue rent to prevent eviction and preserve her housing. Grocery cards helped restock her fridge and restore a much-needed sense of normalcy.
This is just one example of a life changed because of your support.
Thank you for standing with us and making a difference for vulnerable seniors in our community.
